Harish opens residential school for minorities
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao inaugurated the first-ever English medium residential school for minorities here on Monday along with Director General of Police (ACB) A K Khan who was appointed the minority residential schools society chairman.

The State government contemplated setting up 120 minority residential schools in the State. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao brought about a revolution with the idea, he said. Earlier governments had allocated up to Rs 200 crore for minority welfare and spent only half of the allocation, he said.
A K Khan was appointed chairman of the society because of his commitment. The implementation of the Chief Minister’s idea on minority residential schools is left to AK Khan, he said. The schools teach in English medium along with Telugu and Urdu and would have a special facility to perform namaz.
The highest number of minority residential schools was allotted to Medak district, he said informing that the residential school for girls would also be inaugurated. No government gave two-day holiday for Ramzan, distributed clothes to poor Muslims and arranged iftar party for 1,000 Muslims in each Assembly constituency and to one lakh in Hyderabad.
He said that the Shadi Mubarak scheme was a major success with the Muslims and added that Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra governments are being urged to initiate similar programmes for Muslims there.
Drawing a comparison between residential schools with that of private schools, A K Khan asked teachers to treat students as their own children and pay special attention in case any of them lagged behind. MLC Farooq Hussain also spoke during the occasion. Later, Harish Rao and Medak District Collector Ronald Ross had lunch with the school students.
