Hyderabad: Hardly a fortnight after the inauguration of the newly built Cantonment General Hospital (CGH) at Bolaram, medical staff from Rasoolpura dispensary being transferred to CGH; trouble is brewing as patients visiting the Rasoolpura dispensary are suffering.

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is providing medical services through dispensaries located at Bolaram, Picket, Rasoolpura, Balamrai, Trimulgherry and Bowenpally.

Nayeem, a social activist and resident of Rasoolpura says, “The SCB needs to appoint medical staff for CGH, exclusively. Instead, transferring staff from here is causing a lot of inconvenience as there is no one at the dispensary. With a population of 1.3 lakh, mostly people in low income group, people badly require the services of the dispensary at Rasoolpura. But, SCB is said to be planning to handover the dispensary to DMHO.”

A senior official of SCB said that the process of appointing medical staff for the 30-bedded hospital has begun and everything would be in place, very soon. The CGH was built at a cost of Rs 5.2 crore and was previously known as the Cantonment Infectious Diseases Hospital.

On an average, 100-150 patients visit the Rasoolpura dispensary. A doctor and a pharmacist have been transferred to CGH. Mohammed Iqbal, a resident of Gun Bazar said, “When I took my mother to the dispensary we were shocked as there was no one available. People in the area depend a lot on this dispensary.”

Residents of Balamrai and Bowenpally too complain that at times it gets crowded and if there is no staff, people will have to make several trips to the dispensary. Ram Mohan, a resident of Balamrai says, “Most people living in these areas cannot afford treatment in private clinics. Though people are happy that the CGH has come up but for small ailments people depend on the dispensaries.”
