A two judge PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice P Naveen Rao on Monday directed the Telangana State government to give a detailed reply to a writ petition complaining of unauthorised cultivation/culture/marketing etc., of catfish in Gadwal, Alampur, Vaddepalli, Atmakur areas of Mahbubnagar district along with the back waters of Priyadarshini Jurala project through other bodies.

Radhakrishna Reddy, an MPTC member, and another complained that the government had banned the cultivation of the said fish as it causes enormous damage to the fish fauna. In spite of the same the petitioners complained that the cultivation of catfish had been on the increase.

They further complained that the government was turning a blind eye to the said illegal growth cultivation contrary to the ban imposed. The Government Pleader informed the court that action was initiated and steps were afoot to prevent the same.
