Govt to spend 50 cr for transforming Bhongir Fort into adventure destination : Chandulal

Hyderabad: Bhongir Fort in Nalgonda would be developed into a favourite tourist and adventure destination by the Tourism and Archaeology departments. The State government decided to spend Rs 50 crore for developing this monolith mountain, Tourism and Culture Minister A Chandulal said on Tuesday.

During a review meeting with officials at the Secretariat here on Tuesday, the Minister said a rope-way would be put in place and related works would begin in four weeks. The meeting focused on the facilities and infrastructure.

It was attended by Minister G Jagadish Reddy, local MP Dr Boora Narsaiah Goud, Government Advisor K V Ramana Chary, Tourism Secretary B Venkatesham, Commissioner Christina Z Chongthu, Archaeology Director Vishalakshi and officials.

Through ropeway the tourists can see the prominence of the Bhongir Fort and structural beauty and elegance of the construction. The Fort which falls between the historic Golconda and Warangal Forts has historic significance and the government decided to turn it into a tourist and adventure destination in Telangana, Chandulal maintained.

As part of the programme, adventure sports training would be imparted at the Bhongir fort to youth who aim to scale Mount Everest, he said. The fort depicts the rare arts of the ages of kings and monumental wonder that would sure attract tourists from India and abroad.

It was also decided at the meeting that a suitable accommodation facility, meditation centre, museum, sound and lighting show and laser show would be constructed, he stated.

The fort is spread over 40 acres comprising an enticing monolith mountain, strong stone walls, tough arches, zeal and zest of the Kings encouraged arts and expertise of sculptors, wealth of statues. The historic magnificence of the Bhuvanagiri (popular as Bhongir) would be shown to the tourists and posterity, Chandulal maintained.
