Mahbubnagar: The State government has achieved a unique record of planting 1.6 crore saplings across 175 kilometres of National Highway in a single day in the State.

Mahbubnagar.

The Chief Conservator along with Srinivas Goud, MLA Mahbubnagar and District Collector Dr TK Sridevi, took part in the plantation programme at Mayuri Nursery and Ramreddy eye hospital in Yenugonda.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr TK Sridevi said, “Haritha Haram programme is a novel environment protection programme and it is being taken up in a big way with the support of all categories of people such as political leaders, government officials, voluntary organisations, industrialists, farmers and individuals across the district.

On the first day of inaugural of ‘Haritha Haram’, we have planted 6.5 lakh tree saplings and on the second day we could achieve plantation of 3.5 lakh saplings,” informed the Collector.

Despite having holidays, the school students actively took part in the plantation progarmme. The Collector praised the student’s initiative and appreciated them for their active participation. The district administration is planning to achieve a target of planting 40,000 saplings in each village. Apart from this, at least one lakh plants are being planted at the mandal headquarters across the district.

While enumerating the achievement, the Collector said, “we could achieve the record of planting of saplings over 100 kilometres of National Highway in a single day.”

The Collector has also set a target of planting 40,000 saplings in Mahbubnagar municipality on July 18 and accordingly the officials have been directed to take all necessary preparations for the same.

Overall, in the next 15 days, the State government is planning to take up the ‘Haritha Haram’ programme in a revolutionary mode and is expected to reach the set target of planting 46 crore plants across the State.
