​Hyderabad: The police on Tuesday booked a case against a bar for serving alcohol to underage patrons and prime accused in a road accident case that claimed the lives of two people, including that of 10-year-old Ramya.

According police, the accused, who were responsible for rash driving, were below the age of 21. The TGI Fridays, a bar at Cineplex under Banjara Hills police station limits, served liquor to youngsters on the ill-fated day, when the car Ramya and her family members were travelling in was hit by a vehicle driven by one of the underage patrons.

The car flung into air after ramming the median and landed on the Santro car, the family was travelling in at Punjagutta. Rajesh, Ramya’s uncle, died on the spot, when i10 car landed on the rooftop. Ramya, on the other hand, fractured her pelvic bone, later died while undergoing treatment after more than a week’s struggle.

The bar was served notice and booked under section 36 (1) (g) of Excise Act. “As the bar violated the norms, which restricts serving liquor to a person below 21 years, we served it a notice and registered a case under Excise Act,” said K Srinivas, Inspector Banjara Hills.

Drive against drink-driving during day to continue
Meanwhile, the traffic police of Banjara Hills caught 15 minors during a drive against drink-drivers during the daytime on Monday. Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Traffic DCP L S Chauhan said a total of 108 cases were registered during the afternoon.

He warned that action would be taken against the bars and wine shops, which serv alcohol to minors. “Criminal cases will be booked and Excise Department will be notified to cancel licence, if these bars are found serving liquor to minors,” he warned.

On the issue bike racing, he warned that the individuals if caught second time while indulging in bike racing would be booked under cases of law and order and would be punished under “danger drive.” “We shall be conducting the drive till 3 am in the morning,” he said.
