​Hyderabad: Laptops were presented to successful students of Social Welfare Residential Schools (SWRS) who got selected under the Community College Initiative Programme (CCIP, USA) and to those who proved their mettle in the IIT exam.

Chandrakanth and D Sushma, who were selected under the CCIP, were presented with laptops by Scheduled Caste Development Minister G Jagadishwar Reddy at Maheswaram on Wednesday. He was the chief guest at the inauguration of a new Social Welfare Residential School for Girls at Maheswaram (Ranga Reddy district).

Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) Secretary Dr RS Praveen Kumar and SC Development Secretary Mahesh Dutt Ekka, MLA Teegala Krishna Reddy and other dignitaries participated in the inauguration ceremony held at TSWR Gowlidoddi Magnet School.

Speaking on the occasion, Jagadishwar Reddy praised the Chief Minister for creating a history by sanctioning 103 new Social Welfare Residential Schools and 30 degree colleges for women in a single academic year 2016-17.

The Minister congratulated the Secretary and his staff for working hard in providing high quality education to the poor students. He also said that the ‘Summer Samurai’ programmes have been playing an instrumental role in helping the students in meeting the challenges of life.

He congratulated the Society for promoting innovative programmes, enhancing life skills of the students on a big scale and making students compete globally on par with the best corporate schools in the country.

The TSWREIS Secretary thanked the Chief Minister for announcing 103 new schools and 30 degree colleges with an estimated project cost of Rs 5,500 crore. He said that no Chief Minister had ever taken such a bold and historic decision. He thanked the SC Development Minister for providing foam mattresses and pillows for the students.

The Ministers participated also in the Haritha Haram programme and planted saplings at Gowliddodi Magnet School campus. They urged the people to plant saplings on a massive scale to maintain the ecological balance and diversity of life with an endeavour to create Bangaru Telangana.
