Hyderabad: Alleging that reports published in several newspapers pertaining to chief minister being awarded number one rank in a survey as bogus, Telangana BJP on Monday warned of ‘action’ against media organisations for spreading misinformation.

Addressing a press conference here along with legal cell representatives Ravinder Vishwanath and K Karuna Sagar, party’s official spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao said that there was no base for the reports published in some of the Telugu newspapers and an English newspaper.

“The ‘Asthana’ reports of Chief Minister’s Office everyday create a story with fiction and propagate it with the help of the party's newspaper and later force other newspapers to publish the same false news,” alleged the party spokesperson.

Stating that the report was baseless, the BJP leader said that such type of news would mislead people. “Will the prime minister ask IB (Intelligence Bureau) to take up a survey? Will the IB take up surveys?” he asked adding that the prime minister never told anyone to take up survey.

He said that the party would ask the Centre to take action against such ‘baseless’ reports being published in newspapers. “We have sent newspaper clippings to the Prime Minister and will also send them to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and especially to Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu. We urge people not to believe in such Goebbels campaign.”

Rao also took exception to news reports which talk about appreciation of the Telangana government by different Union ministers. “Ministers, MPs and MLAs call on the Union ministers, we don’t know what happens inside but the next day we see news reports that the Union minister had praised the Telangana government,” said Rao. “What has TRS has done for the people of Telangana for receiving appreciation from the central ministers,” he asked.

Rao said that his party has given exception this time considering it as a first mistake, but warned of action if such baseless reports are published. “Is doing illegal things the real meaning of Bangaru Telangana?” he asked. The BJP leader demanded security for city legal cell convener Karuna Sagar, who has been getting threatening calls ever since he filed a case against MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi.
