​Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao asserted here on Thursday that the government's main task was to provide irrigation facilities to one crore acres in Telangana.

Speaking after reviewing the Kaleswaram, Palamuru, Dindi and Sitarama lift irrigation projects in his camp office, KCR stated that the government would not hesitate to spend any amount to protect farmers. “Every year Rs.25, 000 crore is being allocated to the irrigation projects,” he added.

He directed Finance Secretary Ramakrishna Rao to ensure deposit of Rs.2, 100 crore in the account of the Irrigation department every month.

A press release issued by the CMO quoted KCR as stating that the government would bear the cost of the lift irrigation schemes even after they were completed. He said the government's aim was to see that the State revenue should be utilised for people's welfare.

Rao claimed that crores of rupees were being spent for providing free power and irrigation facilities to farmers. The Chief Minister called upon people's representatives to intervene at the district-level in land acquisition for irrigation projects.

Among those present at the review meeting were Power Minister G Jagdish Reddy, Mission Bhageeratha Chairman Vemula Prashant Reddy, MPs Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Irrigation SE Muralidhar, Kaleswaram CE Venkateshwarlu, SE Sudhakar Reddy, Genco CMD D Prabhakar Rao, Palamur Project OSD Ranga Reddy.
