Hyderabad: The South Zone police of Hyderabad helped two women to reunite with their mother after 28 years.
In 1981, Nazia Begum (60) of Santoshnagar was married to a United Arab Emirates (UAE) national Rasheed Eid Obaid Rifaq Masmari at a Qazi’s office in Old City and she left for the UAE with him. There, Nazia found that her husband was already married and was living with another woman in Fujairah province in the UAE.
Highlights:
- In 1981, Nazia (60) of Santoshnagar was married to a UAE national Rasheed and left for UAE with him
- After bearing two daughters, Rasheed divorced her and sent her back without her daughters
- Once back in India, her parents married her off to a fruit vendor from Bidar in Karnataka and was living there happily
- About six months ago, her daughters from the UAE came to Hyderabad in search of their mother and approached the South Zone DCP V Satyanarayana with an old photograph of Nazia to trace her
- On Thursday, the police united her with her daughters after a strenuous search
Helpless Nazia lived there for around four years and was blessed with two daughters Ayesha Rasheed Eid Obaid alias Kanoo Rasheed and Fatima Rasheed Eid Obaid.
As disputes arose between Nazia and Rasheed, he divorced her and sent her back to India forcibly without her daughters. After two years, Nazia’s parents married her to a fruit vendor from Bidar in Karnataka. Now, she has three children and is living in Bidar.
About six months ago, Ayesha (29) and Fatima (26), came to Hyderabad in search of their mother and approached the South Zone DCP V Satyanarayana. They brought an old photograph of Nazia and asked the police to help them trace their mother.
“Two teams headed by Additional DCP K Babu Rao, met Qazis and enquired with several ‘shaadi khanas’ with the available information. They got some clues and two special teams were set up to trace Nazia. After six months of strenuous efforts, Nazia was traced to Bidar,” said South Zone DCP V Satyanarayana.
The DCP said Nazia had vague memories about her daughters from her previous marriage. “All she could remember was that her younger daughter had six fingers. We checked this with Fatima and confirmed it,” he said.
At around 5 pm on Thursday, Ayesha along with her husband and 10-year-old son, and Fatima came to Purani Haveli.
Ayesha and Fatima, who broke out into tears on seeing their mother, said, “We never thought we would meet our mother in lifetime. God fixed the meeting and we are glad that we got to see our mother after 28 long years.”
