It’s good news for all consumers with illegal water connections in the city as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has decided to reintroduce Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS). The scheme is open from August 1 to August 30, 2016. People who are below the poverty line would be provided with Rs 1 connection.

Hyderabad: It’s good news for all consumers with illegal water connections in the city as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has decided to reintroduce Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS). The scheme is open from August 1 to August 30, 2016. People who are below the poverty line would be provided with Rs 1 connection.

M Dana Kishore, Managing Director, HMWSSB said that this was a good opportunity for consumers to regularize their connections. Those who do not regularise their connections would be dealt with sternly, he said. He further added that citizens who report illegal connections would be given 25% of fine amount as incentive and even the lineman would get a cash incentive of Rs 200 for every illegal connection which he reports.

New app to help plug irregularities
The Water Board in a bid to track irregularities would be launching a new ‘Operations and maintenance monitoring’ mobile app on August 2.

Mobiles with the installed app would be given to lineman whose duty would be to take photographs and share it with concerned managers (Engg), Dy General Managers (Engg), General Managers (Engg), Director and the Head Office for taking prompt action.

“The developments would be regularly monitored in command control and there will be more transparency in the system,” said Dana Kishore.
