At a programme held at the Corporation council hall in Warangal on Wednesday, the Mayor handed over letters sanctioning tap connections to 25 beneficiaries.Speaking on the occasion, he appealed the BPL families in the city to make use of the scheme. The State government, with an objective of providing safe drinking water, has issued an order GORT No: 372, dated May 24, 2016.
All efforts to implement the government order would be made. The corporators have to identify eligible beneficiaries and ensure that they avail the scheme.
On part of the GWMC, extensive campaign would be conducted to cover all the BPL families, who were being exempted from bearing the expenses amounting to Rs 16, 000 to Rs 18000 to get a tap connection, Mayor Narender explained.
Yet some anti-development forces, instead of appreciating the government initiative have been misguiding the public saying that Rs 1 tap connection would be fitted with metres and huge charges would be extracted later, he complained.
The GWMC has set a deadline of August 15 to regularise domestic and commercial water connections being used illegally. The citizens concerned should regularise illegal connections before the deadline, otherwise severe action would be taken against them, he cautioned.
He asked the linemen and common public to inform the Corporation if they found any domestic connection being used for commercial purposes. The linemen would be given a cash incentive of Rs 200 for providing information on misuse of domestic tap connection.
The Mayor, Narender, further informed that under AMRUT scheme the Corporation was planning to provide round the clock water supply to citizens under its limits, including the 42 villages merged with Greater Warangal.
The Municipal Commissioner, Sarfaraz Ahmad, informed that they have received about 358 applications from BPL beneficiaries. 100 applications would be cleared by the end of this week and efforts would be made to clear the remaining at the earliest.
Those eligible could apply at the corporation circle offices at Kashibugga, Kazipet and Nakkalagutta, besides the single window cell set up at head office along with Aadhaar card, food security card and house ownership certificate, he added.
Deputy Mayor Khaja Sirajuddin, Assistant Commissioner Shahid Masood, Secretary V Nagaraja Rao, Superintendent Engineer Abdul Rahman, Executive Engineer A Linga Murthy and others were present.
