Nalgonda: Criticising that the previous governments have ruined all important sectors in Telangana region including green coverage, Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy requested the people to make the Haritha Haram programme a grand success by joining in the plantation drive to turn the district as Haritha Nalgonda.

He along with District Minister G Jagadish Reddy, on Wednesday participated in Haritha Haram programme in the premises of 12th Battalion of State Special Police at Anneparthy village in Nalgonda mandal.

Speaking to the media, Home Minister Narsimha Reddy said reduction of forest area is causing deficit rainfall and adverse impact on agriculture. Taking up mass plantation drives under Haritha Haram was the only way out to make the State a Haritha Telangana, he added. But, he requested the people to protect the plants from animals.

If these saplings were protected for two years, then they would develop into trees.District Minister Jagadish Reddy said the target was to plant five crore saplings in the district but there were no rains for 12 days after launching the Haritha Haram programme.

Since there is rainfall in the district for the last few days, he directed the officials to plant one crore saplings in the district in this week. The plantation programme would be taken up seriously after Pushkaralu to reach the target. MP Gutha Sukender Reddy, MLA Vemula Veeresham, Additional DGP of Telangana State Special Police Govind Singh accompanied the Ministers.
