Hyderabad: Thousands of students from 75 city schools got a firsthand feel of the Indian Air Force (IAF) at a familiarisation event held at Hakimpet Air Force Station on Thursday.

As part of 70th Independence Day celebrations, IAF organised a guided tour for around 10,000 students from various schools, who got the rare opportunity to witness a fly-past by Kiran and Chetak aircrafts.

A static display was also arranged for school kids to see the aircraft and get a close feel of the magnificent metal birds. Different planes and helicopters on display included Chetak, Hawk, an advanced jet trainer aircraft, Pilatus PC-7 Turbo trainer aircraft and Kiran MK-1, a twin-seat jet plane.

Children were also taken to the Air Force museum to get a glimpse of the Air Force history. In addition, a movie show about life in Air Force was also screened for the students.

“The aim of the event is to familiarise and motivate young students to join an exciting and challenging career in the Indian Air Force,” said an official.

The event was inaugurated by Air Commodore Hardeep Bains, and Anju Bains, president, Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local).
