The State government on Saturday decided to request Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) for the release of water from Krishna River to meet the irrigation and drinking water needs of Khammam and Nalgonda districts.

Hyderabad: The State government on Saturday decided to request Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) for the release of water from Krishna River to meet the irrigation and drinking water needs of Khammam and Nalgonda districts.

In this regard, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao held a meeting with Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy and Khammam MP P Srinivasa Reddy and discussed the issue of water requirement and storages in Krishna and Godavari basins in the State.

Harish instructed the Irrigation officials to take up the issue of immediate release of Krishna water to Khammam and Nalgonda districts with KRMB.
He also asked the officials to release water from Lower Manair Dam for irrigation and drinking water needs.

Reviewing the progress in project construction, the Minister said 12 medium-level irrigation project works would be completed by July 2017 in Adilabad district, which would help to bring 95,000 acres additional ayacut. He wanted the completion of canal works under Devadula project before August-end.
