Jangaon/Mulug: Tension prevailed at Jangaon and Mulug towns in the district where protests have been going on seeking to create new districts of Jangaon and Mulug.

Scores of people including women and youth have come on to the roads defying Section 144 imposed in the town and took part in the road blockade following a call given by Jangaon Zilla Sadhana- JAC.

However, the police who were deployed in large numbers in the town, tried to prevent the protestors ensuring smooth flow of traffic. But the traffic was disrupted for more than half an hour due to the protests.

During a protest on the Suryapet road, the protestors pelted stones damaging window panes of two TSRTC buses. Four students climbed a mobile tower and were later detained.

As many as 200 activists and leaders of the JAC, leaders of different political parties including TRS were taken into preventive custody since the morning.

Municipal councilors and municipal chairperson Premalatha Reddy, JAC Chairman Arutla Dashmanth Reddy were among the arrested. People from the villages of neighbouring mandals like Lingala Ghanpur, Maddur, Cherial and others have arrived at Jangaon in large numbers. Large number women squatted on the road nad raised slogans before they were taken to the police station.

Protests demanding the creation of Jangaon district were held at Raghunathapalli, Narmetta, Pembarthi, Maddur and other places where the effigies of Chief Minister K CR were burnt. The JAC has given a bandh call on Saturday protesting police action against them.

Osmania University JAC leader Bala Laxmi extended her support to the bandh. The JAC leaders N Rameshwara Chary, R Ratnakar Reddy and others called upon the people to make Jangaon bandh a great success.

Responding on the developments at Jangaon, Superintendent of Police (Rural) SP Ambar Kishor Jha said some activists were taken into custody as precautionary measure.

Prohibitory orders were imposed under Section 144 CrPC and the orders could not be lifted in view of the prevailing situation. At Mulug, the Sammakka-Sarakka Mulug Zilla Sadhana Samithi activists have staged a rasta-roko in front of Government Junior College on NH-163 at Mulug demanding the creation of Mulug district.

When the police tried to disrupt the protest, an activist Ahmed Pasha attempted to immolate himself but the police overpowered him and shifted him to a local government hospital.

The government should create Mulug district or make it the district headquarter for the proposed Bhupalpally district, the leaders of Samithi M Bikshapathi and Nallela Kumar demanded.
