DREAM COME TRUE

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao releases water from Kalwakurthy lift

Hyderabad: Finally, the decades-long dream for irrigation waters in the parched lands of Palamur district came true here on Thursday with Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao switching on the second and third lift of the Kalwakurthy project in the presence of Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, MP Jithender Reddy, MLA Srinivas Goud and officials.

Harish Rao let the waters flow down at Jonnalaboguda under Kalwakurthy project putting smiles back on the faces of the farmers. This will irrigate one lakh acres in Kalwakurthy, Atchampet and Kollapur areas and will also irrigate 2.5 lakh acres in three months. About 30 per cent of works will be completed in nine months to reach the target, he said.

Ridiculing the previous TDP and Congress regimes for confining themselves to words and failed to implement the scheme and then chief ministers N Chandrababu Naidu and Y S Rajasekhar Reddy just broke coconuts and failed to complete the project, Harish Rao maintained that the TRS government could complete the works in just two-and-a-half years as Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao promised.

“As per KCR’s direction, we have persistently monitored the works for speedy completion and the decades-long dream of water for parched fields has come true”, he claimed.

Harish Rao spent a night at the Kalwakurthy project office to encourage the engineers and officials to speed up the works and released in advance Rs 10 crore funds towards bills payment. He slammed the Opposition leaders for making mischievous comments and obstructing the works.

The successive governments made tall promises deserting the green lands of Palamur, he deplored. Thanking the engineers and officials for the completion of the project, Harish Rao asked them to speed up the works enabling the farmers get waters for six lakh acres by next Kharif season.

The TDP leaders in Telangana have no moral right to live in the State as they tried to stall the Kalwakurthy lift works by filing cases. They attained notoriety for creating hurdles in the developmental works, he added. MLA G Balaraju and others were present.
