Hyderabad: The State-owned TSRTC is worried about the impact on its revenues once the 72-km elevated Metro train starts chugging. The Metro train route passes through densely populated areas covering major parts of the city which include Miyapur-LB Nagar, Jubilee Bus station-Falaknuma and corridor-III Shilparamam to Nagole.

Senior officials said that the impact could be minimised if the Corporation rationalises services as per the needs of the people. Recently, the RTC officials took up a survey on the impact of the Metro Rail over RTC services. Sources said that the officials would shuffle the routes along the Metro corridors.

RTC Greater Hyderabad zone executive director A Purushottam Naik said that the Metro Rail can pass from one end to the other but it cannot take the passengers to every nook and corner and close to the commercial establishments of the city as RTC does.

He said that they were planning to operate buses to areas beyond Metro stations. For example, the Metro would stop at Falaknuma. But RTC would operate buses beyond Falaknuma. The mini buses of the Corporation would come in handy for commuting the passengers from stations to their localities, he added.

The advantage for the RTC was that the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) authorities have given assurance to the Corporation that first priority would be given to State-owned Corporation for running the shuttle buses.

The HMR authorities are also planning to bring in smart card ticketing option by bringing combined ticketing for Metro and the RTC.
