Justice M S Ramachandra Rao at the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday issued directions to the Directorate of School Education in Telangana State to conduct language pundit Common Entrance Test (LPCET) for Telugu, Hindi and Urdu languages within six weeks.

The judge made the order in a writ plea filed by Vikas Telugu Pandit Training College of Ranga Reddy district seeking to declare the inaction of the authorities in conducting LPCET as illegal.

The petitioner pointed out that the State government had accorded permission on October 26, 2015 to the Director of School Education for conducting the LPCET by limiting examination centres to Hyderabad and Warangal as per the Rules.

The Director, School Education informed the court that he had addressed a letter to the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) seeking laying down of new norms for conducting of LPCET and he was awaiting for the response from the NCTE.

The counsel representing the NCTE told the court that the NCTE had already constituted an expert committee for formulating the norms and it was informed to the Director.

He pointed out that any such new norms would apply only for the academic year commencing after the new norms are laid down and there was no necessity for the authorities to await for the framing of new norms.
