Hyderabad: The steering committee of Telangana Rythu JAC is organising a dharna at Indira Park on Sunday to highlight the plight of the farming community and the crises in the State agriculture sector due to dry spell in August and floods in September this year.
For the first time after formation of Telangana State, Telangana Political JAC chairman (TPJAC) Prof. M. Kodandaram will participate in the dharna along with hundreds of farmers from various districts. Former legislators, women and intelligentsia comprising professors of universities, doctors, lawyers and students are expected to join the dharna to express sympathy and solidarity with the distressed farmers in the State.
A spokesperson of the Telangana Rythu JAC appealed to the people to join the agitation and help make it a grand success. Meanwhile, the State committee of Telangana Rashtra Communist Party (TRCP) has extended its total support to the dharna by TPJAC chairman Prof. Kodandaram.
TRCP general secretary Mandagadda Vikram Kumar on Saturday stated that after formation of Telangana State, lakhs of farmers suffered huge losses due to drought conditions and floods during August and September this year.
Consequently, the farmers neither repaid bank loans, nor could perform marriages of their daughters. He pointed out that the demoralized farmers had committed suicides by hanging and consuming pesticides.
