Salt scarcity scare sees shops run out of stock

Medak: Believing in rumours spread by some people that there was shortage of salt in Telangana, people purchased salt in huge quantities spending about Rs 300 per kilo of salt at several places in Sangareddy and Medak districts on Saturday.

If people were not in banks exchanging their Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, they were busy lining up in front of shops to buy salt. The shopkeepers made merry utilising the rumours to full extent.

In several villages, shops ran out of salt by 5 pm, as people had already bought out the entire stock. Vasam Venkateswarlu, Joint Collector, Sangareddy district cleared the air about the salt crisis and informed the people through media that there was enough stock of salt with the district administration and asked the people not to fall prey to rumours.
