Hyderabad: To resolve the issue of transporting the dead body of the deceased from the government hospital to their home, the government on Friday launched a 24/7 free “Hearse Service” for the middle class and poor.

Launching the service on Friday, Health Minister C Laxma Reddy said that poor people have been facing lot of problems in transporting the dead bodies to their home town as it involves high cost.

This service would prevent incidents that came to light in recent times like a husband carrying body of his wife on his shoulder or a man carrying corpse of his wife on a push cart, he said. He said GVK Group, which manages the popular 108 emergency vehicles, would manage the ‘hearse service’ as well.

The minister said the mortuary van has the facility to shift two dead bodies at a time to their home along with the family members. The Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana Mohammad Ali said the government has provided 50 vehicles and more may be introduced in future. Minister for Animal Husbandry, Talasani Srinivas Yadav was also present on the occasion.
