Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation tops the list of 22 municipal corporations across the country in property tax collection. According to the list released by the Union Ministry of Urban Development on Sunday, the GHMC has collected Rs 188 crore in November followed by the Kalyan Corporation (Maharashtra) (Rs 170 crore), Ahmedabad Corporation (Rs 150 crore), Chennai Corporation (Rs 76.8 crore), Coimbatore Corporation (Rs 49 crore) and Ranchi Corporation was at the end in the list with Rs 1.8 crore.

The Kakinada and Vijayawada Corporations which collected Rs 2 crore in November last year have mopped up Rs 20 and Rs 12 crore, respectively. Similarly, the Guntur Corporation which collected Rs 1 crore has now got Rs 6 crore. The Centre’s decision to accept the old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes has enhanced the property tax collection across the country by at least 200 per cent.

GHMC which collected Rs 8 crore in November last year has collected Rs 188 crore during till Saturday. A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the corporation expects that its collection will go upto Rs 250 crore in the next fours days. He said that even though collections have dropped as compared to the first day it may pick up on the last day, November 24, the official added.

He said that the corporation would embark on new mission in December and would focus on property tax collection from major commercial establishments and prime properties particularly in the central zone. He said that the corporation would collect at least Rs 100 crore towards property tax from these establishments during December.
