Bomb blast triggers panic in Bhupalpally

Bhupalpally: Whether it was an effort to regain their foothold in the region or to make their presence felt, the CPI-Maoists, hours before the scheduled start of their 16th annual weeklong People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) celebration, has drawn the attention of the people by planting a pressure bomb, an anti-handling improvised explosive device, near Vijayapuri Colony in Venkatapuram mandal on Thursday in which an auto-driver sustained grievous injuries.
Incidentally, this is the fourth such incident occurred in Venkatapuram Police Circle in last six months, besides one that took place near Maraigudem village, a bordering village of Chhattisgarh located close to Dummugudem mandal headquarters in Telangana.
In the wake of string of encounters from October 24 to 27 on the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) region in which 30 Maoists lost their lives, the recent activity of the ultras in tribal pockets of Jayashankar-Bhupalpally and Bhadradri-Kothagudem districts points out that they were giving a serious thought on recruitment to bolster their forces.
On the other hand, the police are of the opinion that demonetisation of high valued currency notes will have a huge impact on the rise of Maoist insurgency as they now stand to run out of finances.
The police believe that ultras who store their cash in the denominations of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes in dumps will have a little option to exchange the devalued notes with the new currency.
Speaking to The Hans India, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer K Dakshina Murthy said: “The incident that took place in Venkatapuram mandal on intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday is just a case of Maoists desperately trying to make their presence felt.
Such incidents would only harm laymen as they were not aware of Maoists’ guiles.” The police said that auto driver G Karthik inadvertently touched the pressure bomb thus inviting an explosion.
However, it’s reported that bomb exploded when Karthik was removing posters and banners purportedly put up by Maoists. It may be noted here that ultras put up banners and posters inviting people to join their fight against the State, besides appealing to people to join the PLGA Week celebrations that begin from December 2.
Meanwhile, it’s learnt that Karthik, who was admitted to a private hospital in Hanamkonda, is said to be out of danger.
