It may be recalled that the State government sent an appeal to the Union government to increase the seats in the Telangana State Legislative Assembly from the present 119 to 153 in accordance with the AP State Reorganisation Act.
Nizamabad: Leaders belonging to various political parties, especially the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party, who are expecting the reorganisation of the Assembly constituencies in the wake of reorganisation of the districts are crestfallen with the Union Government ruling out an increase in the number of Assembly seats till the year 2026. Those who were made in-charge of various Assembly constituencies are feeling a little insecure about their future.
It may be recalled that the State government sent an appeal to the Union government to increase the seats in the Telangana State Legislative Assembly from the present 119 to 153 in accordance with the AP State Reorganisation Act. If the Centre accepts their proposal, each of the five Assembly constituencies in Nizamabad district would get two extra Assembly seats. They would have got one extra Assembly seat apart from the present Nizamabad Urban and Nizamabad Rural constituencies by adding one or two mandals in the Bodhan Assembly constituency.
Similarly, one more Assembly seat would have been added between Armoor and Balkonda constituencies. It would have given an opportunity to some more leaders to contest from the new constituencies. However, the Centre is no mood to entertain an increase in Assembly seats and the leaders are highly disappointed.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was expecting an exodus into its fold from several leaders of Congress and TDP. Speculations were rife that senior TDP leader Yeleti Annapurnamma might quit and join the TRS any time. Similarly, rumours are doing rounds former AP Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy is also toying with the idea of resigning from the Congress and join the TRS.
Besides, there was a lot of propaganda that former Minister the Congress leader from Bodhan Sudarshan Reddy would also join the TRS bandwagon in the near future. Two MLAs of ruling party from the district are feeling insecure as their performance has come under scanner and the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is reportedly unhappy with their performance.
They fear that he may entertain leaders from other parties and undermine their influence. The hopes of all the leaders of various Opposition parties to join the ruling party and enjoy the fruits of power have been dashed with the Centre’s refusal to increase the number of Assembly seats.
