Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to submit a detailed report to the National Green Tribunal explaining that the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project would not cause any harm to environment and that the impact would be minimal.

This follows the NGT Chennai branch’s order stopping all construction activity undertaken in connection with the project in the forest as well as non-forest areas of the Narlapoor-Anjanagiri Balancing Reservoir expanse in Mahabubnagar district, including part of the Rajiv Tiger Reserve Forest that holds a significant tiger population.

The NGT gave its order on Tuesday while hearing a petition filed by city-based B Harshavardhan who complained that the project does not have any of the mandatory clearances required prior to the commencement of construction, such as environmental clearance under the Environment Impact Assessment Notification, 2006, clearance from the National Board for Wildlife, and Forest Clearance under Section 2 of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 etc.

Following this, officials of the Irrigation Department met here on Thursday and reviewed the situation. According to sources, the objections raised by the petitioners pertain to just two or three stretches.

They said the department would prepare a detailed report and give replies to all the issues raised by the tribunal.

Jupally blames Nagam Meanwhile, Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao alleged that Nagam Janardhan Reddy was behind the petition against the Palamur Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project in the National Green Tribunal.

He said that the senior BJP leader was acting at the behest of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Jupally wanted him to withdraw the petition.

When contacted by The Hans India, Nagam, however, refuted the charge and said that he would give a proper reply to the allegations on Friday.
