The State topped in the rankings of “ease of doing business” and efforts that went into development of Hyderabad played a vital role in achieving the feat, he pointed out.

Brushing aside allegations of negligence on part of the GHMC in developing areas like Amberpet in the city, the Minister said the government had carried out various development works in all parts of the city impartially. “Our work for developing Hyderabad fetched us 99 seats in the GHMC elections,” KTR said.

He said drinking water to all periphery areas in GHMC limits would be provided by this summer. He said the law and order situation in the city and the State was good. The government was keen on keeping nalas free from encroachment.

KTR said at the time of State formation Hyderabad had only 20,000 commercial water connection. After the GHMC conducted survey, the number now went up to 30,000. He said the government was making HMWSSB a self-sufficient organisation and was providing all help.

The minister said the State government conducted a survey on and found out many discrepancies in self-assessments of property tax.

After the proper assessment of properties, the revenues of the GHMC in the form of taxes went up. The government did not hike property taxes but only brought the individuals under tax-net who evaded taxes due to under valuation of properties.
