Hyderabad: Tension built up at the Begument police station on Friday night following the death of a 29-year-old cab driver Mohan Krishna alias Ramu under suspicious circumstances. The family members of the driver staged demonstration in front of the police station, alleging that Mohan Krishna was tortured by the police.

Mohan Krishna, a resident of Patigadda and father of a toddler, had allegedly harassed a school-going minor girl, who happened to his cousin, prompting her father D Jayaram, to lodge a complaint with the police. The police, who summoned him, booked a case against him and allegedly thrashed him with rubber baton.

Even the minor girl claimed that the deceased was thrashed with an object. “The cop beat him and also asked me to beat him with footwear,” said the minor girl, who is studying in class IX.

Later in the evening, he was dropped at his house. The mother and wife of victim along with close relatives rushed Mohan Krishna to a hospital. But the doctors declared him as brought dead. Later during the night, the family members staged a sit-in at the Begumpet police station demanding justice. His mother and wife, Lavanya, demanded suspension of the policemen responsible for his death.

Denying the allegation, the police held that the accused was a ‘diabetic’ patient and died of weakness, as he did not take food for almost three days before he was taken to the Begumpet police station.

Referring to autopsy report, the police stated that they had not found any external or internal injuries on the body of the deceased.
