Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Telangana unit working president and Floor Leader in the Assembly A Revanth Reddy and another TDP MLA S Venkata Veeraiah staged a dharna in front of the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr BR Ambedkar on the Assembly premises for not allowing them inside the House during the one day special session conducted on Sunday.

Speaker S Madhusudhanachary had on Saturday informed them that the two TDP legislators would have to stay away from attending the one day special session as their suspension from the House in the just concluded budget session was still in vogue.

Angry over this, Revanth and Veeraiah staged a dharna. The police took the two MLAs into preventive custody and shifted them to a nearby police station. Revanth criticised Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for preventing them from attending the important session where the government adopted Reservation Bill increasing the quota for Muslims and STs in education and employment.

Revanth alleged that Chandrashekar Rao’s insincerity in increasing reservation for Muslims and STs was exposed as the government deliberately adopted a single Bill for the enhancement of reservations to Muslims and STs. The government would have to face many legal hurdles, he said and demanded that the government increase BC reservation which should be proportionate to their population.
