Boath: He vanished from a village at the age of 12 about 28 years ago and surfaced at the family home very recently to rediscover the familial bonds much to the bewilderment of two elder brothers, family members and people of the village. His brothers could not believe their eyes seeing a tall, grown-up, turban-wearing strong Sardarji sporting a characteristic beard a la Sikh. They have memories about him as a playful tiny tot.

The Sardarji from Punjab was identified as Sonu Singh, who owns a lorry and drives it for a living. His parents gave him the name Yata Adellu. He lived with parents, who now passed away, and two elder brothers Rajan and Vaman at Kokasmannar in Ichchoda mandal of Adilabad district.

On chided by parents for not doing anything worthwhile, he left the village at the age of 12 for Punjab where he did odd jobs. A lorry owner in Ludhiana in Punjab took the boy under his wings, regarded him as his son and gave the name Sonu Singh.

Executing an order to deliver goods to a customer, he was proceeding along the national highway heading for Warangal via Adilabad. The moment he entered Adilabad district, his memories about his childhood gave him the intuition that he belonged to somewhere in the district and his village would be somewhere in the vicinity.

He went on enquiring people about the mandal and village. The moment he entered Ichchoda mandal, he formed a clear picture in his mind about his native place. With the help of the Kokasmannar sarpanch, he identified his home.

Neither the villagers nor family members recognised him. However, after a while his brothers recognised him and embraced him with tears rolling down their cheeks. Not only his brothers and other family members but also people of the village were awed at the pleasant surprise.

Adellu alias Sonu Singh wept bitterly on knowing that his parents had died 15 years ago. When the villagers, who suspected sinister plot like demanding a cut in the family property, questioned his motive behind resurfacing at the village nearly after three decades, he minced no words and said that he did not want a share in the property, but the love of near and dear. He cried for missing the love and affections of the parents and for not being at their bedside when they passed away.

He declared that he would live with the family and marry someone here. The family members’ joy knew no bounds. They are celebrating his reunion by preparing various dishes and making them eat with love and affection: which the Sardarji missed very much.

Soon the issue became sensational news of the village as the surprised villagers began speaking about it to share their joy.
