Hyderabad: Minister for Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao here on Saturday stressed the need to build double bedroom houses for the poor to give them self-respect. He said the poor are living in bad conditions in slums.
Speaking to media persons after laying foundation for 180 double bedroom houses at GY Reddy Compound at Bansilalpet area, KTR said the new housing units would boost the self-respect the poor living in slums.
The 2BHK houses, which would be constructed at Rs 9 lakh each, would have value of Rs 45 lakh when completed. The State government had given permission for construction of 2.33 lakh houses in the State. One lakh houses would be built in the Hyderabad alone. The KCR government would be spending Rs 18,000 crore for providing houses for the poor.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, KTR said, had launched the housing programme for the poor to alleviate the sufferings of the poor. The previous governments used to bulldoze houses of the poor and leave them to their fate, the TRS government was constructing 2.33 lakh double bedroom houses for the poor, he pointed out.
Reiterating the commitment of Telangana government for the welfare of poor, the Minister said the ‘KCR Kits’ scheme comprising 16 items, including baby powder, oil, diapers, etc. would be launched from June 2. This apart, under the “Amma Vodi” scheme, the government would extend Rs 12,000 financial aid to pregnant women, he explained.
Besides, the government was offering Rs 75,116 under Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes, establishing 500 residential schools to impart English medium education to poor children, Rs 5 lakh insurance coverage for drivers working in the unorganized sector, he added.
Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav, appealed all the beneficiaries to personally monitor the construction works regularly. Jeevan Reddy, MLA, K Hemalatha, B Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC, Ms Prashanthi, Joint Collector, Hyderabad District, and senior officials were present.
