Hyderabad: North Zone task force team on Wednesday arrested three persons for allegedly cheating auto-rickshaw drivers by selling them fake vehicle insurance certificates. The arrested were identified as A Visveshwar Rao, U Prem Kumar – both RTA brokers and G Satyanarayana, who runs a stationary and Xerox shop.

Police seized as many as 15 fake insurance certificates, one each scanner, printer and computer, three mobile phones and Rs 9,320 in cash from the accused. Police said the two RTA brokers lured the auto-rickshaw owners by promising them insurance and insurance certificates issued within no time without requiring the presence of the vehicle owners.

Since they worked as RTA brokers outside RTA office, the vehicle owners trusted them and handed them money and also the required documents for subscribing insurance. However, the RTA brokers, instead of getting genuine insurance policies for the vehicles, got fake insurance certificates in the name of private insurance companies with the help of Satyanarayana and handed over fake certificates to the vehicle owners, police said.

The gang so far cheated 20 vehicle owners. Some of the victims filed complaints at Marredpally police station. Consequently, task force team nabbed the accused and handed them over to Trimulgherry police for further action.
