Hyderabad: The State government has agreed to fill 200 posts of Town Planning Supervisors and Town Planning Assistants and 26 Food Inspectors (Food Safety Officers in GHMC). Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao signed the file for issuing orders to this effect.

The posts will be filled through direct recruitment by notifying the same through Telangana State Public Service Corporation (TSPSC). The decision was taken keeping in view the actual requirement with reference to the nature of work and activities of the GHMC.

The GHMC had urged the government to fill the posts for speedy processing of administrative and technical files at ground level and also to provide basic civic amenities to the citizens to make Hyderabad a clean and green global city.

The Town Planning wing of the GHMC plays a vital role in according building construction approvals, removal of illegal encroachments and taking up road widening in the rapidly growing city. However, of the total cadre strength of 412 posts from the Chief City Planner to the Surveyor, the present strength is only 135.

In order to ensure a proper planned developed of the city into a truly global city, the Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao has requested the Chief Minister to fill the vacant posts in the Town Planning Department of the GHMC.

As per the instructions of the Municipal Administration Minister, the file relating to the filling up of vacancies has been sent by the Secretary, Municipal Administration, Navin Mittal to the Chief Minister.

The secretary explained that separate staff was required for taking up building construction approvals, removal of illegal encroachments and taking up road widening in the city. Presently, all these works are undertaken by one single officer, which is resulting in a lot of work pressure on the staff.

He also said there were only three food safety officers in the GHMC area and there was a need for another 26 officers. The Chief Minister agreed to the proposal to fill the posts of 200 TPOs and 26 Food Safety Officers through the TSPSC.
