Hyderabad: Five police officers including an Additional Superintendent of Police were suspended for their alleged nexus with late gangster Nayeemuddin aka Nayeem.

Suspended officers include CID additional superintendent of police Maddipati Srinivasa Rao, Assistant Commissioners of Police Chintamaneni Srinivas of CCS and M Srinivasa Rao of Mir Chowk division, Inspectors Masthan Vali of Sangareddy and Raja Gopal of Kothagudem.

Sources said the SIT had identified 12 police officials who allegedly had nexus with Nayeem and amassed huge wealth with the help of his illegal activities and helped him run a criminal empire in return.

It is also alleged that some of the officials got rewards, promotions and medals by claiming credit for the anti-Maoist work including encounters carried out by Nayeem.

Of the 12 officials, five were suspended after the preliminary enquiry and evidence collected so far established that they did have links with Nayeem and helped the gangster run the criminal empire.

It may be recalled here that some pictures of police officers rubbing shoulders with gangster Nayeem years ago surfaced a couple of months ago causing sensation.
