​Hyderabad: Software exports from Telangana reached Rs 85,470 crore for 2016-17 financial year from Rs 77,070 cr in the previous fiscal. With 13.85 per cent growth rate in FY17, IT exports from the State surpassed the national average growth rate of 9.85 per cent, according to IT Minister KT Rama Rao, who released annual report-2017 on the IT industry performance here on Thursday. He also unveiled T-Wallet, an e-wallet.

As part of rural technology development policy, Telangana government is keen on Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The State government is also focusing on sunrise sectors like cyber security, data analysis, IoT, etc.

Speaking on the occasion, KTR said: “The software industry generated 24,500 direct jobs during 2016-17 fiscal and with this, the total number of employed persons in the industry reached to 4,31,89 as of now.

We’re targeting Rs1.2 lakh crore worth IT exports by 2020 with a compound growth rate of 16 per cent. The Telangana State is right on the track towards this target. By 2020, over eight lakh people are expected to be employed in the software industry.

The performance during the past three years proved that apprehensions, doubts and wariness at the time of formation of new Telangana State were baseless. We not only regained the lost momentum, but also made rapid strides in the short span of three years.”

IT exports from united AP in 2013-14 were Rs 57,258 crore and Rs 66,276 crore in 2014-15, the first year of Telangana. Shrugging off the global economy slowdown more particularly the recent developments including curbs on H1B and outsourcing, KTR said IT layoffs were media hype only.

Several global majors are keen on Telangana and those exist in Hyderabad are in fact expanding their operations, he added.“Amazon is expanding. Its 3 million sft new facility in the Financial District will be ready soon. SalesForce is expanding. German company ZF is already here and building its own campus in the city. ValueLabs, FlyDubai, DBS to name a few which are expanding in the State,” he maintained.

Elaborating on several measures being taken up for developing software industry in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, KTR said that KPO in Karimnagar, technology centre in Huzurabad, SEZ in Warangal and IT tower in Khammam will be a reality soon. Kakatiya Hub in Nizamabad is already making progress, he said.

“We promote electronic manufacturing in the State. Centre approved 3,300 acres for electronic hubs. Out of this, 900 acres around Hyderabad would be developed. Approvals received for e-City near airport and in Maheshwaram mandal. The government is also promoting LED bulbs and its usage by urban local bodies.

120 acres land will be developed in Medak district for LED bulbs manufacturing,” adds KTR. KTR further said that the focus was on sunrise sectors including cyber security, data analytics, internet of things (IoT), etc. “T-Hub has become successful in less than two years.

About 250 incubators in T-hub generated a combined turnover of Rs 100 crore. As part of T-Hub, we have initiated another innovative concept called T-bridge that connects domestic startup ecosystem with that of global industry.”

On the occasion, KTR also presented Telangana State awards in different categories to software companies for excellence in certain fields. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) chairman J. Satyanarayana and others took part in the event.
