Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has virtually thrown up its hands in finding a solution for the overflowing sewerage problem across the city.

The problem will persist across various areas of the city until the end of monsoon, warned an official. All that HMWS&SB can do is to put the recently acquired 70 mini-air-tech jetting machines to maximum use to clear the blocked manholes, he revealed to The Hans India.

Despite covering 70 circles across the city and on the outskirts regularly to solve blocked sewerage issues, mini-air-tech jetting machines have failed to catch up with the number of complaints received by Metro Customer Care (MCC).

Moreover, repeated complaints are being received from the same areas as problem seems to persist. A moderate rainfall inundates these areas. Even after repairs, the problem recurs after two days.“Such problems are common in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits as well as HMDA limits.

Manual teams, which are the main stay of storm water and drainage maintenance, are ensuring to minimise the problems of citizens. There is a need to upgrade the sewerage system which is a massive job. It has to be done in a phased manner which involves huge expenditure,” said an HMWS&SB official.

Till then, the problem would persist during the monsoon and would continue to put pressure on the authorities. Till the HMWS&SB gets more mini-jetting machines, citizens have to put up with overflowing and flooding during this monsoon season.
