The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to construct 30 new water sumps of 50,000 litre capacity each and dig 21 new borewells for irrigation plantation on the Main Carriage Way (MCW) of the Outer Ring Road (ORR). These water sources will be used to water the large number of plants that would be planted as part of Haritha Haram programme.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to construct 30 new water sumps of 50,000 litre capacity each and dig 21 new borewells for irrigation plantation on the Main Carriage Way (MCW) of the Outer Ring Road (ORR). These water sources will be used to water the large number of plants that would be planted as part of Haritha Haram programme.
On the Main Carriage Way stretch of 71.3 km, from Patancheru to Shamirpetand Shamirpet to PeddaAmberpet, 30 new sumps and 21 new borewells would be set up at every 2 km to have proper plantation for the trees and the construction work is likely to be completed by August.
When asked about the same, a senior HMDA official said for the irrigation and plantation on the medians and for the railway corridor they have received the requirement from the urban forestry. He further said out of the total 150 km of ORR, 62.2 km is under Built Operate- Transfer (BOT) Annuity, 24 km of stretch from Gachibowli to Shamshabad is under the urban forestry and the remaining 71.3 km of MCW is under HMDA.
He said from Patancheru to Mallampet there are five existing borewells and two new have been proposed, Mallampet to Dundigal, five are existing and two have been proposed, Dundigal to Shamirpet has seven borewells and five more will be installed, Shamirpet to Keesara and Keesara to Ghatkesar 10 new borewells have been proposed and from Ghatkesar to PeddaAmberpetthey are six borewells and two more have been proposed.
Speaking about the existing and new water sumps he said each sump is of 50,000 litre capacity and will be underground water sumps. He said for Patancheru to Mallampet six have been proposed, Mallampet to Dundigal seven new sumps will be constructed, Dundigal to Shamirpet three new sumps, from Shamirpet to Keesara and Keesara to Ghatkesar 10 new sumps will be set up and from Ghatkesar to PeddaAmberpet will have four new water sumps. The total cost of construction of new sumps is around Rs 80 lakh and would cost the HMDA around Rs 1.98 crore.
As many as 1.55 lakh plants will be planted at MCW of ORR and around 45,000 at railway corridor under Haritha Haram drive, the officials said.
