Nagarjunasagar: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh locked horns once again on Friday. This time it is over painting of pink colour all over the railings of the Nagarjunasagar dam bridge. Andhra Pradesh vehemently opposed painting pink for it is the party colour of TRS, which is in power in Telangana.
The officials of AP Irrigation Department took strong objection to colour as a part of the bridge falls under the jurisdiction of Andhra Pradesh.
While the officials of AP Irrigation Department took up the issue with their TS counterparts, AP Minister P Pulla Rao said that if the Telangana government does not change the colour they would lodge a complaint with the Krishna River Management Board. He said the project is lifeline for both the Telugu speaking states.
After day-long deliberations between the TS and AP officials, the Telangana Irrigation Department has decided to change the colour and has instructed the contractors to repaint the bridge with either white or some other neutral colour.
Finding fault with painting pink to Nagarjunasagar dam railing, CLP leader K Jana Reddy said that the TRS government was doing such things only to keep the people in some sort of illusion. Speaking to the media at Assembly Media Hall, Jana Reddy said that it was not proper to paint pink to the prestigious water dam.
Modernisation works of Nagarjunasagar dam was taken up with the World Bank funds to the tune of Rs 5.5 crore by a Hyderabad-based construction company. While the crest gates were painted black which is the normal practice, the railings were first painted with white colour and as part of applying final coat, they started painting it with pink.
When officials from AP raised objections, the contractors said that they were following the instructions of senior officials.
Finally, Nagarjunasagar dam project Chief Engineer Ramesh discussed the issue with officials of TS Irrigation Department and directed the contractors to repaint the railings with white or some other neutral colour.
