Hyderabad: Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Sunday urged the State government to taking up awareness programme on GST.

Addressing a press conference after meeting the representatives from textile industry, Dattatreya said it was the State government which should create awareness on GST.

The government would ensure that the traders do not encounter any difficulty because of GST. The Minister assured the textile and beedi sectors representatives that he would take up the issues raised by them with the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday.

The Telangana State Federation of Textile Associations and Cloth Merchants Associations urged the Minister to ensure that the textile sector is excluded from the GST regime.

Dattatreya said that he would discuss with the Union Finance Minister on high tax slab on beedi manufacturing industry. He said the State government had also urged the Centre to roll back the tax on beedis.

He said that a tripartite meeting of trade unions, employers and government officials would be held on July 17 at Delhi, after which they would also meet with officials of the Finance Ministry. The Union Minister said the RBI had agreed to release Rs1,700 crore money on Monday for disbursement to farmers in the State.
