Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to levy tariff on hoardings basing on their size and issue licence for erecting billboards online. Apart from it, the GHMC will also place all the data relating to the hoardings in the public domain to ensure transparency and accountability.

Official sources say the civic body is securing `36 crore revenue a year from the existing billboards

According to an official, the civic body has been securing Rs 36 crore revenue a year from all hoardings erected in the city. Sources in the GHMC estimated that as many as 3,000 unauthorised hoardings came up and they caused Rs 100 crore revenue loss to the exchequer. The sources attributed to the rise of unauthorised hoardings to the apathy on the part of the circle level officials. The circle level officials are allegedly hand in glove with the advertisement agencies.

A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that State government had instructed the civic body to fix the tariff on the hoardings and issue online permissions or give extension as part of ease of doing business (EODB) initiative. He said the civic body will now upload the data of all hoardings and private agencies who erected them. The officialswould verify the structural stability certificates before issuing licence for hoardings.

The GHMC official further said civic body woulddevelop software in such a way that it would cross-check the size of the hoardings with the existing data before according permission.

He said the online applications would be automatically rejected if the hoarding is not erected in accordance with the specifications prescribed by the GHMC and structural stability engineers. Meanwhile, the officials have already launched a drive to identify the unauthorised hoardings in the city. The drive is expected to be completed in a week.
