A 28-year-old woman committed suicide one week after getting married to the man with whom she was in a relationship for 10 years.

According to the reports, the husband began torturing her after the wedding as it was a second marriage for her. The woman, Ummenthala Madhavi was married to another person eight years ago but got divorced within six months after marriage as she is already in love with Katkuri Srinivas.

The police informed that Madhavi and Srinivas were in a relationship for the past 10 years. The couple eloped and got married on May 12 but sought police help for convincing their parents.

After counselling the parents, Madhavi was sent to her husband's home but Srinivas and his parents began harassing her.

In the pretext of Group-2 coaching, Srinivas had her to Hyderabad and tortured her. In a four-page letter, Madhavi wrote that her husband and in-laws would harass her repeatedly.

While she planned to submit the letter to the police, Madhavi never did so. Unable to deal with the harassment, she consumed pesticide and committed suicide at government Degree College in Siddipet on July 15. Even though Madhavi was rushed to the hospital, she died on Monday while undergoing treatment.

The police have recovered the letter and registered a case against Srinivas and his family. Madhavi's family members staged protest in front of the hospital demanding Srinivas' arrest.
