Hyderabad: Bylanes and internal roads at various localities in the Nampally area have been stinking with the overflowing sewerage water gushing out of manholes. For the past few days, rain water overflowing the roads is added to the already existing woes of the people in the residential areas.

Asifnagar, Mallepally, Nampally, Bazarghat, Mehdipatnam, Jhirra, Mangalhat and other neighbouring areas are badly hit due to overflowing sewage water. One can notice several overflowing manholes on the main roads and in the bylanes. Continuous overflow of sewage or rain water on the road damage the roads besides causing problems to vehicle users and to pedestrians. It also causes traffic jams at many places.

The situation has left the people suffering and complaining. Overflowing sewerage lines have been there for some months and the civic officials fail to take up remedial measures. Leakage of drain water has become routine issue near Niloufer Hospital, near Glory Cinema Theatre and near Nampally Railway station for the past several weeks.

Water Board and GHMC officials are responsible for taking up the repair works and clean the overflowing manholes; but it seems that the works are not in their priority list. People are questioning the authorities as to what were they doing if this is the condition of sewer lines. A businessman near Mallepally, Mohammed Irfan said that it was one week that a manhole was overflowing on the junction in front of his shop but he did not notice any de-silting machine of Water Board or GHMC reach there.

He said, “This area is a connecting line between Vijayanagar Colony, Mallepally and Nampally and officials are not taking any interest in setting it right. Authorities must take this issue seriously or they should stop collecting taxes from people.” Venkatamma, a pavement vendor at Nampally, said that overflowing manholes affect the road side vendors a lot.

This is not just the matter of overflowing manholes; there are other problems associated with it, she said. Mehdipatnam to Asifnagar bus route becomes more awkward and terrible due to frequent overflowing sewer lines. Pedestrians apparently are the worst sufferers.

A mechanic from Mangalhat area, K Srinivas said he had to move precariously while walking up to the bus stop. “Roads in this area are already damaged due to over flow of drains. Pedestrians have been facing inconveniences. Neither we can walk freely, nor we have chance to stand at bus stop too,” he lamented.
