Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Principal of DivyaGyana NiketanDr Sunita Reddy said, “There is no concept of second language in my school. I personally train the students in this language and participate in the events which promotes our mother tongue.” Even the children who come from the Northern States have picked up the language within a short span of time, she said.

Srinivas Reddy,Principal of St. Duke’s school, Mirjalguda said, “We have both the languages Telugu and Hindi. If a child takes up Hindi as the first language, they have to study Telugu as a second language and vice versa.” Dr. Bheeshma Reddy, Principal of Vijay Mary High school saidevery alternate day they make sure that the students from various classes read out prayers and news in Telugu so, that they do not lose touch with the language.”

Lakshmi Devi, Telugu teacher of ZillaParishad High School, Malakjigirisaid the Stategovernment should take steps to protect the language as it represents our culture. We as teachers, make sure that towards the evening, we spend three hours extra to train the children who do not know Telugu.”

Rajkumar, Assistant Professor in Department of Telugu, Women’s College at Kothisaidthat primary education of children should be imparted in Telugu, as it gives confidence to the children and gives them the scope to develop their personality.Dr. BalakrishnaMuthy, Assistant Professor, Department of Telugu from PottiSreeramulu Telugu University saidthat they support every move of the government to protect our mother tongue as it represents our rich culture and traditions.

He added, “The government should take up the initiative to print books in an easy form to meet the needs of the children who migrate from other states to our state, rather than denying them admission.”

When contacted an official in the DEO office saidthat around 40 percent of the schools in Hyderabad promote Telugu. He said efforts were on to promote Telugu language on large scale.
