Hyderabad: Six devotees, including the head priest of Lord Shiva’s temple located at BhhemalingamKatwa near the sangam of Valigonda Mandal in the Yadadri district were caught amidst the floods of Musi river here on Thursday.

The names of the victims who were stranded in the temple were identified as SirikondaJhangir, SirikondaLaxmamma, SiriKondaJangaiah, SirikondaAlivelu, SirikondaVenkatesham, Temple priest Chari and ChilkulaYadaiah and Chilkula Swamy who shepherds respectively.

The information of the ghastly situation had spread like wild fire across the region. No sooner did the locals came to know about it, Shekhar Reddy, local MLA, Krishna Reddy, local MLC and District commissioner of police (DCP) Yadagiri rushed to the scenario to help the people. A message was also sent to the National Disaster Force (NDRF) about the calamity.

However, the situation was such, it was getting dark and the villagers could not afford to wait for the rescue team to come in. With the help of local fire service team and other residents, first the villagers rescued the two shepherds who were at the accessible points with the help of ropes. And then slowly rescued the others before NDRF team arrived. The victims thanked the people who came to rescue them and said that they would be indebted for this to them.
