Hyderabad: Opposition parties in Telangana on Friday called for celebrating Liberation Day across the state on September 17.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, T. Raja Singh said, "In the time of Congress government, the same Chandrashekhar Rao targeted the Congress and asked to demolish it if it doesn't celebrate the day. So today the BJP is questioning that now when it it's your government in the state, we are repeating the same questions once raised by you and why aren't you officially recongising the day.

Putting his party's stand strongly he said that the only aim of his party is to celebrate September 17 officially in Telangana in order to pay tribute to the people who sacrificed their lives for the state.

Echoing similar sentiments, another leader from Congress, Ponnam Prabhakar Goud said, "Now when the Chief Minister KCR has formed the government the people of Telangana and opposition is asking you to recognise September 17."

Defending Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Kalvakuntla Kavitha told ANI, "TRS party all through the Telangana moment had only celebrated September 17 as a day in which Telangana was merged into the Indian union; we never said it was a liberation day. That has been our official party stand from the beginning and we will stand by it."

She further said that since last three years the BJP is trying to politicise the issue but it has never gained much ground.
