On the occasion of Telangana Liberation Day here on Sunday, leaders and activists of BJP and its affiliated wings clashed with the police when they tried to hoist national flags on government offices. Following the state party’s call, BJP leaders unfurled the national flags in all villages of Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri districts. They faced stiff resistance from the police.

Nalgonda: On the occasion of Telangana Liberation Day here on Sunday, leaders and activists of BJP and its affiliated wings clashed with the police when they tried to hoist national flags on government offices. Following the state party’s call, BJP leaders unfurled the national flags in all villages of Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri districts. They faced stiff resistance from the police.

Police restricted the saffron brigade at Thammerabandapalem of Kodad mandal when they tried to hoist national flag in the premises of the gram panchayat office.

A mild scuffle took place between police and BJP cadre. Defying orders of the State government and the police, they hoisted the national flag near Subhash Chandra Bose statue in the village.

In Suryapet and Miryalaguda, police arrested ABVP activists when they tried to hoist the national flag at respective RDO offices. However, in Nalgonda, ABVP activists successfully hoisted the national flag on RDO office.

Meanwhile, in Nakrekal, activists of ‘Manainti’ party under the leader ship of its founder president Cheruku Sudhakar clashed with police while attempting to hoist the national flag on the MRO office. To control the situation, police arrested senior party leaders and their followers.

Senior BJP leaders like Nukala Narasimha Reddy, Kanagal Venkatramaiah and Donthari Sridhar Reddy condemned the arrest of party activists and students while hoisting the national flags and criticised the government’s attitude towards martyrs of this region who liberated Hyderabad from the clutches of Nizam.

In view of the call given by BJP’s state unit, police in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadari districts beefed up security near all government offices, DPOs and Collectorates to avoid any untoward incidents from taking place.
