Medical Council of India has initiated the process of implementing e- governance through Digital Mission Mode Project (DMMP). One of the ambitious module under DMMP project is implementation of new Medical Register (IMR) through Unique Permanent Registrations Number (UPRN) generation for each registered doctor in India.

Hyderabad: Medical Council of India has initiated the process of implementing e- governance through Digital Mission Mode Project (DMMP). One of the ambitious module under DMMP project is implementation of new Medical Register (IMR) through Unique Permanent Registrations Number (UPRN) generation for each registered doctor in India.

On implementation of the system, the existing registration numbers of the doctors will migrate to a standard system of UPRN. Doctors should also apply online for additional qualification like post-graduation, super specialities, etc, registration with IMR.

The doctors should use the system to make online applications for services like issue of certificates.

In this regard, the UPRN number is to be generated for the existing records in IMR. To successfully implement the new UPRN based IMR system, all the doctors in India is to be informed about the new UPRN based IMR system. The MCI has requested the all Indian Medical Associations (IMA) to circulate information through bulletins to all State units IMA.

Once recorded, the Aadhaar number will be verified, UPRN number will be generated, IMR will be updated with new details and an e-mail notification will go to the doctor, MCI and State Medical Council.

A senior Professor of a medical college said UPRN system would prevent irregularities. In many private medical colleges, doctors are appointed only during the MCI inspection and paid for those two days only, he said. G Srinivas, advisor to The Telangana Junior Doctors' Association (TJUDA), said with UPRN the medical students would get the quality medical education.

Hailing the decision of MCI about implementation, Dr Pallam Praveen, National vice-president of Government Doctors and president, Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGDA), said doctors would get identification number.
