Hyderabad: Taking strong objection to the criticism of the Congress by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at a press conference here on Friday, Congress senior leader Marri Sashidhar Reddy said the tone and tenor of the Chief Minister indicated that Chandrashekar Rao had no respect for law and got angry when courts stopped his anti-constitutional decisions.

He said the National Green Tribunal had ordered interim stay on the construction of Kaleshwaram Project as the Telangana government got no environmental or forest clearances. He said instead of following the law, Chandrashekar Rao was challenging the legal decisions and targeting those who were approaching the courts.

Sashidhar Reddy alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government redesigned Kaleshwaram Project only to escalate the cost and benefit the contractors. He said that the TRS Government did not even seek national status for the project as it knew that the Central agencies would not approve faulty designs as it would cause huge losses to the State’s exchequer. He said the State government did not even conduct the public hearing on Kaleshwaram Project in a fair manner.

He said that Telangana, like all other States, was bound to execute projects under the purview of existing laws. The Congress leaders on Friday alleged that the TRS-backed TBGKS won Singareni union polls due to the fake promises made by Chandrashekar Rao and distribution of money and liquor among workers.

Another senior leader D K Aruna said the government had spent Rs 200 crore and had pressed all Ministers and MLAs into the campaign. The Chief Minister was talking as if he had swept the general elections. “If he has guts, he should make all turncoats resign and go in for by elections,” she said.

AICC secretary V Hanumantha Rao said the ruling TRS had won Singareni elections by tempting the workers with liquor and money.

Meanwhile, former Government Chief Whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy alleged that Singareni's election was not free and fair. He said official machinery was misused and workers were lured with liquor and money. He said officials of SCCL had openly supported the TGBKS. He said one TRS MP had distributed silver articles worth thousands of rupees among workers to get their votes.
