Hyderabad: TSRTC has generated an income of Rs 113 crore by running 3,585 special buses during the Bathukamma and Dasara festivals in the State with increased revenue of Rs 10 crore this year compared to the revenue in the same period last year. According to the TSRTC officials, the festival specials have earned good revenue for the corporation this year.

The officials said that 3,585 special buses were operated this year little over 100 buses compared to previous year. The special buses were operated between September 24 and October 2. The officials said that the special buses were not operated all at one time but in phases.

They were started from September 25 with 1,000 buses; between September 26 and 29 the corporation operated 2,600 additional buses; 190 special buses on September 26; 985 on September 27; 540 on September 28; 800 buses on September 29 and 65 special buses on September 30, the official informed.

The officials said that the corporation could coordinate better because of the extended holidays. “The Dasara festival was on September 30 and October 1 was Sunday. In view of Gandhi Jayanthi, Monday was holiday. Passengers had planned their return journey on different days and hence the corporation could get good revenues this year with planned operations,” said the official who was looking after the operations.

Earlier, the return journeys used to be costly because at the times the buses used to come almost empty or with handful of passengers, he said.

This year’s revenue was more than expected as the corporation did not charge 50 per cent additional fares compared to the previous year. During the previous years, the corporation had charged 50 per cent additional charges; but this year there were no additional charges till 200 km of journey.

The official said that this year the corporation received Rs 113 crore compared to Rs 103 crore during the previous year. This year the buses travelled 20 lakh km additionally by covering a total distance of 4.06 crore km during this year’s festival season compared to 3.86 crore km during the previous year.
