Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) slapped a show cause notice on a student for taking to social media and making comments against Prof K Laxminarayana of the School of Economics. University official spokesperson, Prof Vinod Pavarala, in a press release on Friday, said the show cause notice was issued following a complaint lodged by Laxminarayana with the Vice-Chancellor.

Taking serious view of the complaint and, after eliciting the opinion of the Dean of the School, it was referred to the University's Proctorial Board, which, unless otherwise specified, is the authorised disciplinary body, Prof Vinod Pavarala said. The complaint came at the end of the last semester and because of the intervening winter break, the Board took up the matter immediately after reopening in early January. The student concerned has been, subsequently, sent a show-cause notice and asked to appear before the Board on January 17.

Prof Vinod said the University would like to state unequivocally that it has zero tolerance for physical or verbal abuse of faculty members or administrative staff in the course of discharging their duties. “We fully expect all interactions among various sections of the University community to be conducted with mutual respect, dignity, and decorum” Prof Vinod added.
